Different Ways to School Around the World
Hello! My name is Tim. I live in a big city in China. My home is not far from school, so I usually come to school on foot. I think it's good exercise. Sometimes when it rains, my dad drives me to school by car.
My friend Lily lives a bit farther. She often comes to school by bus. The bus stop is near her home. Our friend Mike sometimes comes by subway because it's fast and doesn't get stuck in traffic jams.
But children in different places go to school in different ways. In Alaska, USA, some kids go to school by sled in the winter because there is lots of snow. It's very interesting! In Papa Westray, a small island in Scotland, some children need to go to school by ferry and then by plane! That sounds expensive but also exciting.
How do you come to school? Is it fun?
Choosing the Right Way to Go
It is Monday morning. The sun is shining. Sarah needs to go to the library. The library is quite far from her home. She wants to get there quickly. She can choose to go by taxi or by subway. The taxi is fast but expensive. The subway is also fast and cheaper than the taxi. Finally, Sarah decides to take the subway because it's cheap and quick.
On her way to the subway station, she must remember the traffic rules. She must stop and wait at a red light. She must slow down and stop at a yellow light. She can only go when the light is green. Safety is very important for everyone.
Sarah sees her friend Tom at the subway station. Tom is wearing a helmet because he just rode his bike here. He says riding a bike is good exercise and it's good for the environment(环境). Sarah agrees. Next time, if she is not in a hurry, she may try to ride a bike to the library too.
